The next great EA Development Director also needs:
An EA Development Director is expected to have at a minimum: 7 years of experience in a software development environment, 5 years Project Management or Project Lead experience, and 2-3 years of leadership experience
Bachelor’s degree in any number of related fields including Computer Science, Game Production/Development, Business, etc..A Master’s degree is a plus. PMP is a plus
Excellent knowledge of production life cycle, tools, processes and executions planning.
Experience in a Scrum / Agile software development environment. Scrum Master Certification is desired.
Experience establishing project plan and project budget, determining task dependencies, assigning tasks and implementing operational changes.
Proficient with tools such as Jira, Hansoft, Perforce, and Confluence
Experience working on console development would be a plus
Demonstrated experience in working with broad cross-functional teams. Experience leading multi-location and remote teams is a plus
Strong negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution skills
Effective communication skills across all levels of an organization
Fluent in English
The Challenge Ahead:
A Development Director manages a variety of disciplines including artists, designers, software engineers, QA and other production staff. DD's are the keepers of the project schedule and play a vital role in successfully moving the development team from one project phase to the next while ensuring a strong focus on quality, collaboration and communication. They must partner closely with producers to ensure that they are managing the project on time, to quality, and within budget
What a Development Director does at EA:
In an Agile environment, manages a direct and indirect development team which generally consists of Software Engineers, Animators, Artists, and/or Designers.
Works across feature development teams to lock down requirements and specifications.
Maintains regular communication with project team and coordinates dependencies with internal and external partners
Establishes project schedule and lead across multiple geographical locations to delivery dates
Establishes project budget, determine task dependencies, and assign tasks to team resources as appropriate
Identifies task-related processes to improve efficiency
Proactively assesses and mitigaties risk for assigned scope
Ensures each projects setup meets the specifications with Studio.
Tracks and implements project improvement plans to drive team efficiency.
Defines engagement practices and processes: Ensure all workflow is clearly defined, processes are documented, and staff trained in expectations on the workflow.
